Horse chestnut leaf miner

leave a comment »

I noticed that a horse chestnut (conker tree) here was just beginning to be affected by its leaf miner, a little caterpillar that lives inside the leaf and eats it. I found a leaf where you could see the caterpillar inside its mine, and it even wiggled when I poked it. So I took it back home, cut the leaf open and photographed what I found. In total, one caterpillar and four pupae, which I’m keeping to see if the moths will emerge. The link below has the pictures.
